Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) proudly congratulates St. Andrew’s School student Lezane Okimaw who has been selected as an Honourable Mention for the 2018 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Award.  This award is given by the Alberta School Boards Association and recognizes First Nations, Métis and Inuit students who model strength and commitment in the pursuit of their personal education path.  Award winners embrace their own gifts, strengths and potential while celebrating the ways of their people.  Lezane, who is a grade 11 student, possesses all of these qualities.

“Lezane is a very deserving recipient of this award.  I have had the pleasure of watching him grow up and become the mature young man he is today,” said St. Andrew’s School Principal Marc Lamoureux.

Lezane has gone out of his way to establish relationships with students across the school.  He regularly visits grade four students to help out in any way he can.  He has become a role model for younger students by modeling positive, responsible behaviours.

Formerly known as the “Indigenous Shining Student Award,” the program has been enhanced and expanded and continues to be supported through the collaboration of education partners in Alberta.  More information about the award can be found on the Alberta School Boards Association website here.
