  Posted: September 5, 2017

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I wish students, parents, staff and community members a fantastic 2017/18 school year!  We are very excited to welcome new and returning families to our schools.  I hope you all had a restful summer break and are ready to go back to school.  As the Board Chair of the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD), I am very eager about the exciting year ahead for our division. For your information, below are just a few items that are new in our division for 2017/18.  If you have any questions about specific projects, please contact the HFCRD Central Office and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Grimshaw Shared School Facility

We are thrilled that the Grimshaw Shared School Facility is now complete and the facility is now open.  With the doors of the new schools opening today, I want to thank our partners Peace River School Division and the Town of Grimshaw for their hard work and dedication.  HFCRD looks forward to continuing our positive working relationship for years to come.  Congratulations to the Mile Zero Playground Society on a successful fundraising campaign to build the beautiful playground that now being used by both schools.  We have enjoyed watching this project take shape and we look forward to seeing this facility become a central hub for the community of Grimshaw and area.

Election 2017

Are you feeling called to be a Catholic School Trustee?  If so, the 2017 School Board Trustee election is this fall.  Nomination Day is on Monday September 18th and Election Day is on Monday October 16th.  If you are interested in learning more about the election, please visit the election section of the HFCRD website here: https://hfcrd.ab.ca/div/election2017 or call 780-624-3956 to speak to Returning Officer Aimee Hirtle.

Welcome 15 New HFCRD Teachers

We are blessed to welcome 15 new teachers to our division this year, including three new administrators.  The new teachers were welcomed at the division’s annual New Teachers’ Orientation.  New teachers spent one day learning about HFCRD, who we are as a division and the many supports available to them.  Teachers also spent one day at the Tri-Divisional New Teacher Orientation, in partnership with Peace River School Division and High Prairie School Division where they took part in Professional Development about student engagement, mentorship programs, relationship building, among many other topics.  I welcome all new teachers to our division.

Glenmary School Modernization

As many of you are already aware, the Glenmary School modernization met several unexpected obstacles this summer.  For health and safety reasons, the start up dates were modified.  More information about the changes can be found on our website here: https://hfcrd.ab.ca/div/node/424  Please know that the situation is beyond our control and we thank the Glenmary school community for their patience.  We are confident that the modernized school will be worth the wait, and we look forward to seeing the building take shape.

A new school year is always full of anticipation and excitement.  I wish everyone a successful 2017/18 school year!

God Bless,

Kelly Whalen
