HFCRD to remain open on September 19 with Day of Mourning planned in schools
Posted: September 16, 2022

(September 16, 2022) The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) has decided that there will be classes on Monday, September 19, the National Day of Mourning for Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The HFCRD had a meeting with school administrators to discuss ways to commemorate the Queen and learn about her life, as well as the monarchy.
“The Board was unanimous on the decision to have classes on Monday,” says Superintendent, Betty Turpin. “Our senior administration team had an opportunity to discuss plans for September 19 with our schools. Our students will observe a moment of silence, and teachers have been provided with resources so students can have a greater appreciation for the Queen’s dedication to public service.”
The Government of Alberta declared September 19 a National day of Mourning but did not make it a statutory holiday.
