HFCRD to host a meeting on Disaster Planning in Schools
Posted: March 31, 2023

(March 31, 2023) The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) will be hosting a Peace River Community Emergency Disaster Plan (EDP) Review for Health and Safety in Schools. The purpose of the meeting is to review current procedures in case of an emergency and establish a joint community effort to respond to school emergency scenarios within the Town of Peace River.
“I am really thankful for the organizations that are coming to our Central Office to have this important conversation,” says Superintendent Betty Turpin. “As was the case with the lockdown at the Mile Zero Multiplex last year, a disaster scenario affects many different organizations. The safety of our students, staff and communities is paramount.”
Representatives from the Peace River School Division (PRSD), Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest (CSNO), the Peace Regional RCMP, Peace River Fire Department, the Town of Peace River, Northern Sunrise County, ATCO Gas, ATCO Electric as well as ambulance services are expected to attend the six-hour session.
“I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have proper planning and procedures in place in case of an emergency,” says HFCRD Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator Shane O’Connor. “Included in our agenda is discussing an emergency scenario within town, and how each organization should respond. It’s critical to remain calm during a disaster and having a plan in place will be extremely helpful to our division, as well as our community.”
The meeting will be on Tuesday, April 4 in the auditorium at the division office from 9:00AM – 3:00PM.
