Flag Raising Ceremony for Grimshaw Shared School Facility

  Posted: September 21, 2021

With great excitement, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Peace River School Division and the Town of Grimshaw, in partnership with Duncan’s First Nation and Métis Region VI, are proud to announce that we are hosting a flag raising Ceremony on September 23, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Grimshaw Shared School Facility.  Both the Treaty 8 flag and the Métis flag will have their own flagpole and will be permanently displayed at the shared facility.  This Ceremony is to recognize the history and culture of this land and our collective commitment to reconciliation and inclusion of all.

Although years of planning have gone into this event, raising the flags is even more significant after the recent discovery of children in unmarked graves at former residential schools.  We are committed to sharing the true history of Canada and by raising the Treaty 8 and Métis flags outside our shared facility, we are taking a step forward on our journey towards reconciliation.

This event was initially planned to be open to the public but due to increased Covid-19 related illness in the province, attendees at the flag raising Ceremony will be limited to special guests and a limited number of students, staff and community representation.  All provincial health restrictions will be followed. The public is more than welcome to watch the flag raising Ceremony live on the  Holy Family Catholic Regional Division and Peace River School Division facebook pages.
