Fire at HFCRD Central Office on March 21st

  Posted: March 26, 2019

As our school communities are aware, the HFCRD Central Office had a fire in the afternoon on Thursday March 21st, 2019. The fire began in a storage room in the basement and spread up the South side wall. The cause of the fire is undetermined. All staff members were safely evacuated, 911 was called and fire extinguishers were used safely outside the building to minimize the fire damage. First responders arrived promptly and began extinguishing the fire. Thanks to the fast action of two Central Office staff and the fire department, the fire damage was limited to the South wall, however there is significant smoke damage in the entire building. As a result, the Catholic Conference Centre will be closed for a minimum of four months.

Power has been restored in the building and all central services are in full operation. Central Office staff are working out of Glenmary School this week, and can be reached through the regular modes of communication – phone and email. HFCRD is currently in the process of finding temporary office space and will announce the location as soon as possible.

HFCRD is very thankful to all who were involved in last week’s fire. Our Central Office staff acted fast, evacuated the building and called the first responders. The Peace River Fire Department responded quickly and prevented the fire from spreading further. HFCRD is thankful to our entire school communities for their patience as we continue the process of responding to this unfortunate situation. Please be reassured that there will be no interruptions to central services as we move forward.
