HFCRD seeks feedback for 2023-2024 draft school calendar

  Posted: January 17, 2023

With the Peace River School Division (Transportation provider), the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division is looking for feedback on the proposed 2023-2024 calendar for our north-end schools (Good Shepherd, Glenmary, Holy Family and Rosary).

Having as much input as possible from students, parents, as well as staff members and our communities at large helps us in having a calendar that reflects the needs of everyone.

We value your feedback and strive to provide opportunities for our communities to be involved in decision making whenever possible.

Below is a link to view the calendar in detail, key dates on the proposed calendar, and ways you can provide your input.

Below are key dates on the proposed calendar and ways you can provide your input:

Key Dates on the 2023-2024 Proposed Calendar

August 30, 2023 – Staff Meeting/Professional Development.
August 31, 2023 – Professional Development (PD) Day/Kick-Off.
September 1, 2023 – Staff Meeting/Professional Development.
September 5, 2023 – First day for students after Labour Day.
September 22, 2023 PD – even though September is a busy month, collaboration and sharing early in the year, especially for new staff, is important.

September 30, 2023 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation falls on a Saturday and is not a statutory holiday in Alberta; the whole week will be Truth and Reconciliation Week.
October 6, 2023 – ATA PD – due to students starting after Labour Day, a four-day weekend for staff at Thanksgiving could not be scheduled.

November 13, 2023 – Remembrance Day is considered a general holiday when it falls during a regular work week but this year it falls on a Saturday. The consensus was that it is more meaningful to have Remembrance Day activities November 10th than the 9th, so the 13th is a no school day to honour collective agreements that specify a day off for Remembrance Day.

December 22, 2023 – January 5, 2024 – Christmas break continues to be positioned to include three weekends; students back to school January 8, 2024. High school teachers felt this allowed enough time to have students ready for diploma exams January 10 as the 10th and 11th are essay portions of English LA 30 and Social Studies 30.

January 31, 2024 – Due to diploma exams, semester change and preparations for the next semester, this date cannot be changed.

February 20-23, 2024 – Family Matters Week.
March 7, 8, 2024 – Teachers’ Convention.
March 28-Apr 5, 2024 – Spring Break.
March 29, 2024 – Good Friday.
April 1, 2024 – Easter Monday.
April 19, 2024 – PD Day – with Teachers’ Convention and the beginning of Spring Break in March, it’s hard to position a PD day; one in April was deemed more useful.

May 17, 2024 – PD Day– positioned to give students a four-day weekend.
June 7, 2024 – PD Day– positioned for staff to begin planning for the fall.
June 26, 2024 – Last day for students.
June 27, 2024 – Last day for Staff.
