Important Message for St. Andrew’s School Parents and Guardians

  Posted: February 1, 2021

To the Parents and Guardians of St. Andrew’s School,

We were notified today that one individual at our school has tested positive for COVID-19. All close contacts of this individual are in junior high and have been contacted. All students who are close contacts left school property as soon as possible, and we thank them and their families for their prompt attention to this matter. Due to the large number of junior high staff currently isolating, all junior high classes will transition to at-home learning. This decision was made for operational reasons only. The delivery methods for at-home learning will be at the discretion of each individual teacher. To obtain your child’s belongings, please call the school. We require a minimum of one hour of notice before their items can be picked up. In-person learning at school for junior high will resume on Friday February 12th.

All individuals who are close contacts can leave isolation and return to school on Friday February 12th. Even if these individuals test negative, they are required to isolate for the full isolation period.

If anyone in your household is experiencing any symptoms, they should please stay home and get tested as soon as possible. Out of respect for all individuals involved, and in accordance with Alberta Health Services guidelines, no further information will be shared about this case.

We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

We encourage all parents and guardians of students who test positive to report their test results to our school as soon as possible by emailing joanne.baird@hfcrd.ab.ca. That email address is monitored on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends, and all emails will remain confidential.

The health and safety of our staff, students and community remains our first priority. We know this news can be distressing for families and supports are available. Please be assured we will  work closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure we follow their ongoing recommendations.

We will continue to provide additional information to parents and guardians as it is available.

Yours in Christ,

Betty Turpin, Superintendent and Marc Lamoureux, Principal
