Important Message for École Providence School Families

  Posted: January 15, 2021

To the Parents and Guardians of École Providence School,

We were notified today that two staff members at our school have tested positive for COVID-19.

  1. The first staff member was at school on Monday during their infectious period, but was not symptomatic. When this staff member became symptomatic, they stayed home. All close contacts of this individual have been contacted and all were sent home as soon as possible. All of these individuals are now isolating and can return to school on Tuesday January 26th. Even if these individuals test negative, they are required to continue isolating for the full isolation period. All close contacts
  2. The second  staff member was not at school while students were present. According to the Alberta Health Services’ contact tracing guidelines, the individual was not in our school during their infectious period so no one in our school is considered a close contact of the positive individual. We are communicating this news as a precaution, as we are strongly committed to transparency.

If you did not receive a phone call from our school, your child is not a close contact of a positive case and is not required to isolate. If anyone in your household is experiencing any symptoms, they should please stay home and get tested as soon as possible. Out of respect for the individuals, and in accordance with Alberta Health Services guidelines, no further information will be shared about this case.

Grades 1-4 will be provided at home learning during this isolation period. Your child’s teacher will contact you with assignments that your child can complete at home.

We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

We encourage all parents and guardians of students who test positive to report their test results to our school as soon as possible by emailing That email address is monitored on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends, and all emails will remain confidential.

The health and safety of our staff, students and community remains our first priority. We know this news can be distressing for families and supports are available. Please be assured we will  work closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure we follow their ongoing recommendations.

We will continue to provide additional information to parents and guardians as it is available.

Yours in Christ,

Betty Turpin, Superintendent and Lauri Goudreault, Principal
