Whalen Re-Elected Board Chair and Fisher Elected as Vice Chair
Posted: October 31, 2017
Holy Family Catholic Regional Division No. 37 (HFCRD) is pleased to announce the re-election of Kelly Whalen as Board Chair and Gary Fisher as Vice Chair. The nominations and elections took place at the 2017/18 HFCRD Board of Trustees Organizational Meeting earlier today. Both nominations were uncontested. All Trustees met for the first time and were sworn in officially as Catholic School Trustees.
“Thank you to the Board of Trustees for their vote of confidence. I look forward to continuing our work on some key priorities in the HFCRD,” said Board Chair Kelly Whalen. “I am very proud of the work we have done together, and look forward to continuing on that same path. I welcome Vice Chair Fisher to the Board of Trustees leadership team.” First elected as a Ward 4 Sub 3 Peace River/Nampa Trustee in the January 2011 by-election, Whalen is starting his seventh year on the HFCRD Board of Trustees. Whalen also served as a Trustee with St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Schools for four years.
First elected in 2013, Vice Chair Fisher has served as Ward 2 McLennan Trustee for four years, representing the Ecole Providence School community. Beginning his fifth year of Trusteeship, Vice Chair Fisher is taking the Vice Chair’s seat for the first time.
“I look forward to this new role on the Board of Trustees. As a resident in McLennan for many years, and a former teacher and Principal of Ecole Providence School and Holy Family CyberHigh School, I feel honoured to represent the school community I care so much about,” said Vice Chair Fisher. “This new role will give me even further insight into the needs of all HFCRD school communities, and I look forward to working with my fellow Trustees and all HFCRD staff in this new capacity.”
All Trustees took the Oath of Office officially marking the beginning of the 2017-2021 term. New Trustees John Kuran (Ward 4 Sub 3 Peace River/Nampa), George Chuckvar (Ward 4 Sub 2 Grimshaw) and John Michael Pozniak (Ward 3 Valleyview) took the Oath of Office for the first time. Returning Trustees Carmelle Lizee (Ward 1 High Prairie) and Ryk David Badger (Western Cree Tribal Council) are returning to the Board table and look forward to continuing their important work. Unfortunately Trustee Margaret Michaud had a prior engagement and was not able to attend today’s Organizational Meeting.
