At the January 21st Regular Board Meeting, the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) Board of Trustees unanimously voted to retain the name of Holy Family School in Grimshaw when the school moves into its new facility in 2016. The decision was made at the January Regular Board Meeting after reviewing all feedback gathered from the Holy Family School community and the What You Said Report that summarized the survey results. The Board thanks the community for participating in the community engagement process by speaking with Trustees and responding to the survey. The Board also thanks the Holy Family Parish Council for submitting the opinions of the Holy Family Parish at the December Regular Board Meeting.
145 parents/guardians, students, staff and community members responded to the survey. When asked whether they support changing the name of Holy Family School, 68.97% of respondents voted against changing the name of the school and 31.03% voted in favour of changing the name of the school. The Board reviewed all comments written by respondents before making the final decision.
“Before making this type of decision, our Board felt that engaging the community was very important and we are very pleased with the active response we received,” said HFCRD Board Chair Dianne Arcand-Lavoie. “We are very grateful to the Holy Family School community for voicing their opinions through the survey, a petition and in person.”
The survey also asked respondents if they support the expansion of Holy Family School to a Kindergarten to grade 12 school. 65.52% of respondents voted in support of expanding the school, and 34.48% voted against expanding the school. The Board directed HFCRD administration to research the sustainability and viability of adding a high school to Holy Family School. The Board will vote on this matter after the appropriate research is conducted.
